DLO Spotlight – Bill Tucker

In this edition of our newsletter, we are talking all about Bill Tucker of Omicron

Q: How long has Omicron been around and how has it changed in that time?

A: Omicron is now 21 years strong.  We have grown from small design and engineering business into a completely integrated design, construction, and development company.

Q: Tell us about your most exciting, current project.

A: It’s not possible to choose a single project – we are fortunate to complete hundreds of assignments each year.  We are fortunate to have great clients and great projects!!

Q: What do you feel are the biggest challenges in your industry right now?

A: Disruption is just beginning in our industry and over the next decade, it will become a key differentiator for those who choose to embrace new ideas, processes, and technologies.  The expectation will be faster, better and less expensive in everything you do.

Q: Tell us about your team at Omicron.

A: We have strong team professionals covering all aspects of architecture, engineering, construction, and development management.   Our team is passionate about doing great work for our clients and business partners.   We like to challenge the status quo and embrace change every chance we can.

Q: What is Omicron’s charity of choice to support?

A: Our current charities of choice are the Boys and Girls Club of the BC South Coast and Ronald house.   We believe the future is for our kids and the more of them we can support the better our community will be in the future.

Q: What is the most unique place you’ve traveled to?

A: There are lots to choose from at this point in my life.   But my choice is place and experience.  For the last 5 – 6 years we have done a May trip to a small lake north of Merritt call Chataway.   Cabins are $60/per night, no running water in the cabins, no heat other than a wood-burning stove and no electricity.  This past year 34 of us with our sons spent three days chainsaw carving, riding our dirt bikes, fishing, and of course … and the not to be forgotten pig roast.  A fun and mostly safe way to spend a weekend with your boys!!

Q: What is your “go-to” lunch spot in Vancouver?

A: Tableau

Q: What was your very first job?

A: I had a little lawn mowing business and delivered newspapers.   However, I really made it when I got to work as a costume character at the old Flintstones Bedrock City – East of Chilliwack.

Q: If you could retire and live anywhere other than Vancouver, where would that be?

A: Drifting around Spain for a few months a year would be wonderful … Madrid, San Sebastián, etc….but Vancouver will always be top of my list!!

Q: Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

A: I love to dirt bike and recently took up Chainsaw carving …

Many years of friendship and business; Bill and Lane in Chicago in 2009
